Web Accessibility Articles Response

Accessibility is important for a museum exhibition site because it provides a welcoming opportunity for all users to view and experience artwork and its purpose/meaning/context equally. Just as we discussed in class how the presumption that museums are only for “rich” or “sophisticated” crowds puts up an unnecessary and limiting boundary, an online exhibition site that is not accessible to all users makes that limit true, just for another crowd of people. Even people who do not have physical limitations that prevent them from viewing/hearing information on the site may benefit from additional forms of accessibility. To provide this level of accessibility for all users, our class should include alt text for all images of the pieces in this collection, and we should try to limit the use of fonts, colors, and long passages of text that could make the user experience more difficult.
